After many meetings and constant prayer about every step, we are moving forward with the exciting plans to build our new church. We have had many meetings with our architect to work on the design--to tell him what we need to enable us to better carry out the mission of High Street. We are not just trying to improve on our present facilities, but also taking this opportunity to plan for the future. Bruce Wardell, our architect, has led us through the decision-making process with patience and good humor. With much input from us, the design is near completion. The blueprints will be given to Kenbridge Construction Company for the final bid and we plan to break ground during the summer of 2010.
High Street Methodist Church was established over 138 years ago. Those who came before us courageously stepped forth in faith to provide for us, and now we have the opportunity to do the same for those who will follow us. It is with humble gratitude that we have accepted the challenge to ensure that High Street United Methodist Church will continue to be a special place where Christians gather to worship God and from which to go forth to serve others for years and generations to come.
On May 11, 2010, as required at this point by Methodist District rules, the members of High Street met to vote for the future of our beloved church. The vote was overwhelmingly in favor of proceeding with the project--an historic moment!

A beautiful, historic groundbreaking service took place on June 13, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. at the site where our church is to be built on Camp Parkway. Many members, friends and special guests attended. See the July-August issue of Happenings at High Street for a reprint of the service.
